Whether it is to save money or to reduce waste, you may be looking for solutions to reduce food waste. Today we present original ideas for reusing your fruit and vegetable scraps. These tips will allow you to give those fruits and vegetables a second life.
1- Citrus fruits
Need to clean stainless steel, remove limescale in your bathtub, wash your windows or just have a good all-purpose cleaner? Don’t look any further! Use citrus slices or peels and mix them with vinegar and water to make an effective, 100% natural cleanser! 2- Banana peels as a fertilizer
We all know that bananas are high in potassium and minerals. On the other hand, did you know that not only the fruit contains it, but the peel as well? Use the whole banana to its full potential by making your own homemade fertilizer using banana peels! Plus, it’s super easy to do! You just need to soak your banana peel in a container filled with water for a day or two. Then use the enriched water to water your plants or vegetables in your garden. Your plants will thank you!
3- Strawberry stalks as an infusion
Impress everyone at home the next time you buy a case of strawberries! Instead of just throwing in the strawberry stalks, steep them in water. This makes a delicious flavored water! You can even add sugar and lemon juice for a delicious homemade strawberry lemonade!
4- Broth with scraps of vegetables
We end with something a little more “classic”, but not yet well known. Did you know that you can put your vegetable scraps in the feezer to make a delicious broth? Keep all your peelings, scraps and pieces of vegetables that you are not using in a large freezer bag. Make sure to wash your vegetables thoroughly beforehand. When the bag is full, add the contents to a large pot of water and simmer for about 30 minutes. Filter for a delicious homemade vegetable broth and voila!
