Spring is around the corner: snow has melted and the sun will be warming our cheeks. It also means it’s time for a big cleanup! The mild temperatures makes us want to roll up our sleeves and thoroughly clean our homes. Hello fresh air, cleanliness and good smells! You’ll need a few home products to get the job done. Did you know that lemons can do miracles?

There are many recipes based on this citrus to clean, polish, disinfect and shine. As a bonus, you’ll enjoy an invigorating aroma – and it’s all natural. Discover 6 ways to clean your house efficiently with lemon.

1. Clean cutting boards

Lemon works wonders to eliminate germs on wooden cutting surfaces. Simply rub the board with half a lemon and let it sit overnight. Then, clean with a moistened cloth and mild soap. It will help remove stains and bacteria.

2. Eliminate microwave and refrigerator odors

Clean your microwave effectively with lemon! Add lemon to water in a bowl, and heat up for 2 minutes. Dried food splatters will be easier to wash off with a sponge or cloth. Goodbye old food smells!

For your refrigerator, you can place a bowl with lemon juice on the bottom shelf. This help eliminate any unpleasant odors.

3. Make your windows shine

To remove fingerprints and dirt, spray the glass with a mixture of 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, ½ cup of white vinegar and ¼ of hot water. Rub and wipe!

4. Remove clothing stains

Do you have any grease or deodorant stains on your clothes? Nothing is easier to eliminate by applying a little lemon juice. Rub the stain and let stand overnight. Then wash your clothe as usual.

For white clothes, add 1/2 cup of lemon juice directly into your washing machine along with your usual detergent.

5. Fight off limestone residues

Thanks to its acidic power, lemon is ideal for descaling surfaces stained with limestone. Rub half a lemon on the surface, let stand for about thirty minutes and rinse off. Voilà!

6. Multi-surface cleaner

Several other surfaces are cleanable with lemon, including the shower (spraying lemon juice), your oven (sponge soaked with lemon juice and hot water), your cupboards, your garbage cans, mirrors and many others.
